Rams Review 2008

The 2008 St.Louis Rams season is complete. As my predictions showed in August the 2-14 record is not what I had in mind. Lets recap.

Week 1:Eagles 38 Rams 3-Before the game I said in order to get back in the groove of things. The Rams needed to make a statement and beat Philly. Clearly it did not happen as Jim Johnson's defense destroyed Bulger and the Eagles flew away with it.

Week 2:Giants 41 Rams 13-The Rams played the Giants tough for 3 Quarters until several key mistakes late created a blowout.

Week 3:Seahawks 37 Rams 13-Seattle's receiving core was depleted...yet the Rams secondary got destroyed...badly. After this game I thought 0-16 was a real possibility.

Week 4:Bills 31 Rams 14-Bulger was actually benched entering this game and replaced by Trent Green. Trent actually outplayed Trent Edwards until the 4th Quarter when he overthrew Holt for a pick 6. Lee Evans burned Jason Craft and next thing you knew the Bills escaped by the skin of their teeth. They were 4-0. But since they are 3-9. My two missions were complete...expose the Bills and get Linehan fired.

Week 6:Rams 19 Redskins 17-Everyone thought the Redskins would demolish the Rams. It was Jim Haslett's first game as Rams Interim Coach. It looked that way for a while as late in the 2nd Quarter it was 7-3 and the Redskins were driving. Pete Kendall's fumble and O.J. Atogwe's 75 yard fumble return made it 10-7. The Rams made it 16-7 and had a chance to put it away but collapsed late and the Redskins made it 17-16. Bulger hit Avery for the first down, Incognito got in a fight, and the Rams won 19-17.

Week 7:Rams 34 Cowboys 14-Another big mouth fanbase that shut up after the game. A Romo-less Dallas team got destroyed by a tough Rams defense. As a FOX Announcer said during the 3rd Quarter, "This game is no longer competitive now we take you to another game".

Week 8:Patriots 23 Rams 16-VERY VERY close game. I still say the Rams win if Steven Jackson had been healthy. Truth be told I hate bias but three blown calls really gave the Patriots the win.

Week 9:Cardinals 34 Rams 13-I felt good for the first quarter, but the next three felt like the Linehan era all over again.

Week 10:Jets 47 Rams 3-I really gave up after this game. Entering Arizona I felt we had a fighting chance of still making the playoffs. Arizona was the KO and the Jets game was the nail in the coffin.

Week 11:49ers 35 Rams 16-No comment...

Week 12:Bears 27 Rams 3-No excuses for this.

Week 13:Dolphins 16 Rams 12-Very close game that came down to the final seconds. Had the 5 Red Zone possesions for the Rams been TD's it would've been VERY different.

Week 14:Cardinals 34 Rams 10-What else is new?

Week 15:Seahawks 23 Rams 20-For the third straight year, the Rams held a big lead on Seattle only to collapse late...8 games and counting...

Week 16:49ers 17 Rams 16-It felt like 2005 all over again...

Week 17:Falcons 31 Rams 27-Strong finish(pending on how you look at it) for the Rams. They came really close here against Atlanta. The offense looked like it was really clicking here.

Thoughts:The defense was like Jekyll and Hyde one minute it would be decimating a team and the next it was being decimated. The offense futility continues hopefully its fixed by next season. Overall at worse we were a 1-15 team but at best we could've been 8-8. I'd take the latter but then we might not be able to get a good enough draft pick. But then again, at 8-8 we probably would've won the West and made the playoffs and we'd be playing Atlanta or Philly this week in the dome. With 2008 over, I hope 2009 is better, because it can't get no worse.

Who Needs to Go:
Travis Minor-I feel his team is up in St.Louis and that Kenneth Darby will take his place.

Jacob Bell-Worthless signing, really sucks.

Adam Carriker-Not good against the Run, I feel he might be better at Defensive End, however.

Leonard Little-There were times he'd looked OK, but others he didn't do spit.

Corey Chavous-Todd Johnson can actually stop the run unlike Chavous who misses it. He has good leadership, he just isn't good.

Drew Bennett-I admit he didn't have much a chance this year so maybe I'm being too hard on him.

Dante Hall-Anyone who dances in the end zone for 10 seconds while the Patriots Punt team is coming after you and theres only 15 seconds left...lets just say he's an idiot.

Nick Leckey-Bulger can't even get a good snap under center.

Brian Leonard-I don't think he would do well as a blocking fullback let alone halfback.

Al Saunders-Who the hell calls a screen on 3rd and 11 to Steven Jackson with Dane Looker as the lead blocker?

Who Needs to Stay:
Marc Bulger-Give the man a better line, and some GOOD playcalling and he should be ok.

Steven Jackson-In recent games he looked like the back we all thought we would see.

Kenneth Darby-He looked really good late in the season and could be used to throw off defenses.

Torry Holt-He looked to have woken up late in the season.

Dane Looker-He still has something in him.

Richie Incognito-He's a good blocker with a bad attitude.

Will Witherspoon-Move him to outside.

Ron Bartell-He's got the passion I'm looking for on defense.

O.J. Atogwe-He makes plays.

Ricky Manning Jr.-He was damn good before he got hurt. His corner blitzes really worked.

Derek Stanley-He's a really good kick returner.

Coaching:
I felt that under the circumstances Jim Haslett did an ok job. However, the defense looked terrible most of the time and collapsed late. The players like him so maybe theres something to him. He seems like the anti-Linehan. Al Saunders either needs a brain or better offensive lineman. Maybe its the scheme but maybe its the players. Either way something needs to happen.

Front Office:
John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt are gone. Thank god. With Billy Devaney as GM, we finally have a REAL GM and not a committee like previously. The Jay Zygmunt error will be remembered for a good few years(2000, 2001, and 2003.) But terrible draft picks. Devaney seems to know what he's doing. With him at the helm I am confident with this team.

What Could Happen:
To add to a big mess, there is a possibility that the Rams could move back to L.A. This due to the fact that a good majority of the Rams front office(except for Billy Devaney) is ran out of Los Angeles still and has been since 1946. The Rams even have their preseason games broadcasted in L.A. still. However, it is speculated that the team could be sold to anyone including Eddie DeBarlow who owned the 49ers from 1979-1998, winning 5 Super Bowls.

It seemed to me recently, however, that Chip Rosenbloom is content on keeping the team. So it's hard to tell whats going to happen.

Overall:2008 blew and the Rams have lost 27 out of 32 games dating back to the 2006 Season. What 2009 will bring is a mystery but it sure as hell be better than 2008. Enjoy the New Year.

NFL Playoff Predictions

The 2008 NFL Regular Season is over and we look towards the playoffs. 32 teams entered the season with a chance to get here now only 12 remain. Here is the seedings.

AFC:
1.Tennessee Titans(AFC South Champs)
2.Pittsburgh Steelers(AFC North Champs)
3.Miami Dolphins(AFC East Champs)
4.San Diego Chargers(AFC West Champs)
5.Indianapolis Colts(Wild Card)
6.Baltimore Ravens(Wild Card)

NFC:
1.New York Giants(NFC East Champs)
2.Carolina Panthers(NFC South Champs)
3.Minnesota Vikings(NFC North Champs)
4.Arizona Cardinals(NFC West Champs)
5.Atlanta Falcons(Wild Card)
6.Philadelphia Eagles(Wild Card)

Here are my predictions:

Wild Card:
Cardinals over Falcons-I feel that Atlanta's defense looked sub-par against a bad Rams offense and that Kurt Warner will have a good day. That takes nothing away from Matt Ryan and Michael Turner, however. I feel they will play well too. Give it like a 27-24 score or something like that.

Colts over Chargers-L.T. is hurt and I feel that Indy is on fire.

Dolphins over Ravens-Since losing to Baltimore in October, Miami has been on fire winning 8 of 9. I feel it continues though look for a good game from Flacco, McGahee, McClain and Co.

Eagles over Vikings-Donovan McNabb has been hot late in the season when he needs to be. I feel that Tavares Jackson cannot carry Minnesota to a victory and A.P. will not be enough.

Divisionals:
Colts over Titans-I am not going by the 23-0 game yesterday. I'm going by the fact that I feel that Kerry Collins cannot carry the Titans at QB especially if Indy's "good" defense shows up. It will be close and low scoring.

Steelers over Dolphins-This could be different if and only if Big Ben is too banged up to play and the real Byron Leftwich shows up. Truth be told, Miami can win this game. Look for it to be close twas if it happens.

Eagles over Giants-The Giants seem like a different team passing the ball without Plaxico. I noticed this in the Eagles and Cowboy games. Now they can still run the ball with Ward, Jacobs, and Bradshaw. However, the last time they met, Philly shut down the Gleesome Threesome. If the real Philly shows up(the one from September and the one from December). They will win this game.

Panthers over Cardinals-The last time they met, it was REALLY close. Arizona probably should've won, truth be told. I think it'll be close again but Carolina pulls it out late.

AFC Championship:Steelers over Colts-The last time they met, Pittsburgh didn't have Willie Parker. I think adding him creates a new dimension in this Steeler offense. I also feel that Peyton will struggle in the cold Pittsburgh winter and Big Ben will play better.

NFC Championship:Eagles over Panthers-I'm getting skeptical on this Panther defense. They got mauled by Derrick Ward and they got demolished late by the Saints. I don't think Carolina wins. I think, however, it will be close and it will be high scoring. I think whoevers defense makes a stop wins late.

Super Bowl XLIII:Eagles over Steelers-Philadelphia has been determined to get there and I feel that this year IS the year for Philly. Remember the heartbreaks in the 2001, 2002, and 2003 NFC Title games and the even bigger heartbreak of Super Bowl XXXIX? Not going to happen again. Philly wins and I believe that McNabb either retires or gets a new contract. They remind me of last year's Giants.

Playoff Facts:
  • For the 2nd year in a row and 4th time in 2 years, San Diego will be facing Indianapolis. As the rivalry between class(Indy) and ass(Phillip Rivers) continues.
  • The last time Miami was in the playoffs was against Baltimore in the 2001 NFL Playoffs. Miami lost 20-3. This is also the third meeting in a year and a few day span between the two. Miami ended their losing streak last year beating the Ravens 22-16 in OT while this year the Ravens won 27-13.
  • Kerry Collins will be making his first playoff start since the 2002 Playoffs where he started for the Giants agains the 49ers.
  • Kurt Warner will be making his first playoff appearence since Super Bowl XXXVI.
  • This is only the 2nd time in 25 years that Arizona has made the playoffs.
  • Donovan McNabb will be making his first playoff start since Super Bowl XXXIX.
  • The Minnesota Vikings have not hosted a playoff game since the 2001 Divisional Playoff game against New Orleans.
  • The last time the Vikings were in the playoffs, they lost 27-14 to Philly.
  • The last two times Carolina has made it to the playoffs, they reached the NFC Title Game.
  • The New York Giants will be hosting a playoff game for the first time since the 2000 NFC Title Game.
Enjoy the 2008 NFL Playoffs. It all kicks off Saturday at 4:30pm as the Cardinals take on the Falcons on NBC.

Now this is something you may not know. You know that the BCS National Title Game gives the winner the championship. However, the AP Poll can award someone else with the National Title(they did it in 2003 by giving it to USC over LSU). With the y25 I do the same exact thing. I pick my own National Champion. I did it in 2004(Utah over USC) and 2006(Boise State over Florida).

Usually I have my own criteria which states you must be a conference champion and you must not have a better or just as good record as the team who won the BCS Title(the only time I didn't award it to the team with the best record was Kansas in 2007 who had the best record at 12-1 but didn't win the Big XII). However, this year I am making an exception for Texas and Texas Tech(who under unfair circumstances were both shafted from the Big XII title game). Here are the teams eligible for this and how they can obtain it. At the moment, Boise State and Utah are the two teams that are eligible the most for the title. Therefore, all 1-loss teams need them to lose.

  • Oklahoma-They need to beat Florida and have Texas lose.
  • Florida-Beat Oklahoma convincingly.
  • Texas-Beat Ohio State convincingly and have OU beat Florida in a "lesser" amount.
  • Texas Tech-OU loses to Florida by a close amount. They must also beat Ole Miss convincingly.
  • USC-Beat Penn State convincingly
  • Penn State-Beat USC convincingly
  • Utah-Beat Alabama, needs Boise to lose
  • Boise State-Beat TCU convincingly, and have Utah lose.
Utah and Boise State are also the final two teams in contention for the Mid-Major National Championship. Here are the Mid-10 Standings.

1.Utah 12-0(Mountain West)
2.Boise State 12-0(WAC)
3.TCU 10-2(Mountain West)
4.Ball State 12-1(MAC)
5.Rice 9-3(C-USA)
6.Western Michigan 9-3(MAC)
7.BYU 10-2(Mountain West)
8.East Carolina 9-4(C-USA)
9.Tulsa 10-3(C-USA)
10.Central Michigan 8-4(MAC

  • Texas State vs Montana
  • Wofford vs James Madison
  • Maine vs Northern Iowa
  • Weber State vs Cal Poly

  • Curry vs SUNY Cortland
  • Wesley College vs Mary Hardin-Baylor
  • Washington and Jefferson vs Millsaps

  • Franklin vs North Central
  • Wisconsin-Whitewater vs Willamette
Game of the Week:Boston College vs Wake Forest-Amazing game. BC looked like they could run away with it but Wake took on Chris Crane and next thing you knew BC was down. However, a last-minute drive lead the Eagles to victory.

Player of the Week:The ENTIRE Abeliene Christian Offense-Simply put when you score 93 points in a PLAYOFF game its a guaranteed winner.

Dissapointment of the Week:Maryland Terrapins-Its Senior day, you know you have the best chance to win it all, and yet you lose 37-3...wow, no wonder no one takes this team serious.

Surprise Team of the Week:Oregon State Beavers-Many people doubted them when they faced USC, many doubted them when they said they would run the table, many more doubted that they would beat Arizona, and even more arrived when Jacquizz Rodgers got injured. But the Beavers shocked the world again winning the game. Now with only Oregon left the Beavers hope to win out and get to the Rose Bowl.

Current Conference Check-Up:
ACC:
Atlantic:Maryland and Wake Forest is eliminated leaving Boston College and Florida State. The Noles have finished their ACC schedule but BC has to play Maryland on Saturday. If BC wins then they will go to the conference championship game.

Coastal:Miami and North Carolina are eliminated leaving only Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are done but the Hokies need to beat Virginia in order to win the conference.

Big Ten:Penn State won by beating Michigan State 49-18.

Big East:Cincy can clinch it Saturday by beating Syracuse. However, a loss and two WVU wins against Pitt and USF will give the Mountaineers the conference.

Big XII:
North:Missouri has already won

South:If Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State then you would think that they would jump Texas. However, a loss by OU and suddenly Texas Tech is back in. However, the Red Raiders need to beat Baylor to stay alive. For Texas they need both to lose or have both win and be voted ahead of both in the BCS standings.

C-USA:
East:East Carolina has already clinched it

West:If Houston beats Rice then they clinch it. However, shall Houston lose then Tulsa clinches it.

MAC:
East:Buffalo has already clinched it.

West:Ball State clinched it after beating Western Michigan.

Mountain West:Utah clinched it by beating BYU 48-24.

Pac 10:If Oregon State wins they clinch it. However, if Oregon State loses to Oregon then USC would get it UNLESS the Trojans lose to UCLA on December 6th. Oregon could clinch it with a win over Oregon State and a USC loss to UCLA pending on how the Pac 10 Committee determines it.

SEC:
East:Florida has already clinched it.

West:Alabama has already clinched it.

Sun Belt:If Arkansas State beats North Texas then they will play Troy on December 6th for the Conference Championship.

WAC:Boise State clinched it after beating Nevada on Saturday.

Thats all for now we'll see you next week and enjoy Thanksgiving 2008.

College Football Review:Week 12

Their was no Week 11 review due to lack of time so I bring you Week 12

Game of the Week:North Carolina vs Maryland-I think I have a new record for most heart attacks during a game. This was not a game, it was a battle between two teams determined to win their conference. This had the old "Maryland 3:30pm" game feel to it(basically a big game thats played a 3:30, I had so many of these during the good years of '01-'04). Just like the classic ones this came down to a field goal as the Terps upset the Heels 17-15.

Player of the Week:Case Keenum(Houston)-I guess the Run and Shoot isn't dead at UH as the Star QB lead the Cougars to a 70-30 upset blowout win of once-great Tulsa...my how times have changed.

Dissapointment of the Week:LSU Tigers-Truth be told, they did beat Troy, but to trailn 31-3 at home against a Sun Belt team is redicolos especially after the game with Bama last week.

Surprise of the Week:Rutgers Scarlet Knights-They should be Surprise Team of the Month really. Rutgers has came on late in the season after starting 1-5 and their 49-16 win over USF shows it.

Numbers:
50-The largest margin of defeat in Steve Spurrier's coaching career as Florida killed South Carolina 56-6.

38
-The amount of points unanswered scored by LSU as they trailed Troy 31-3 and rallied to win 40-31.

1984-The last time Vanderbilt went to a bowl game before grabbing a bowl bid following a 31-24 win over Kentucky.

8-The most losses in the history of Michigan football.

The National Title Chase Update:
Alabama beat out Mississippi State 32-7 to stay unbeaten, the Tide will play Auburn in 2 weeks at home then the SEC Title. Texas stayed alive beating Kansas 35-7. Florida keeps prooving its legitimacy by demolishing South Carolina 56-6. USC trailed Stanford in the first half 17-10 but rallied to win 45-23. Penn State beat Indiana 34-7 and they'll finish the season against Michigan State next week.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma WILL PLAY next week in Norman. If Tech wins they need to only beat Baylor and Missouri in order to get to the National Title Game.

The Heisman Hunt:
My Top 5 Contenders:
1.Graham Harrell-QB(Texas Tech)
2.Colt McCoy-QB(Texas)
3.Sam Bradford-QB(Oklahoma)
4.Tim Tebow-QB(Florida)
5.Michael Crabtree-WR(Texas Tech)

The Mid-Major National Title Update:
Utah Utes(11-0)-Utah demolished San Diego State and can win the Mountain West if they beat BYU on Saturday.

Boise State Broncos(10-0)-The Broncs gave it to Idaho this week but still have to face Fresno State and Nevada in two tough games.

Ball State Cardinals(10-0)-The Cards continued their weeknight trip by beating Miami this week. However, Central Michigan is one tough cookie.

BYU(10-1)-The Cougs knocked off Air Force to stay alive in the Mountain West hunt and Mid-Major National Title race.

The Mid-10 Rankings:
1.Utah 11-0(Mountain West)
2.Boise State 10-0(WAC)
3.Ball State 10-0(MAC)
4.BYU 10-1(Mountain West)
5.Central Michigan 8-2(MAC)
6.Western Michigan 9-2(MAC)
7.TCU 9-2(Mountain West)
8.Tulsa 8-2(Conference USA)
9.Air Force 8-3(Mountain West)
10.Rice 7-3(Conference USA)

The FCS Title Hunt:
Big Sky:Weber State has clinched the conference following their 59-27 win over Idaho State. So look for the Wildcats to enter the tourney.

CAA:New Hampshire and Maine play this week to determine the North Division champion and who will face James Madison for the conference championship.

MEAC:South Carolina State has clinched the conference.

MVC:Southern Illinois can clinch it this week with a win over Illinois State. However, if they fall then Northern Iowa will win it.

OVC:Tennessee-Martin and Eastern Kentucky play this week to determine the conference champion.

Patriot League:Holy Cross and Colgate will play this week for the conference championship.

Southern Conference:Appalachian State has won the conference beating Elon 24-16.

Southland:Central Arkansas will face McNeese State for the conference championship.

The Ivy League:All Brown has to do is beat Columbia and they shall win the conference. If not, then the winner of Harvard and Yale will be crowned conference champion.

SWAC:Grambling State remains unbeaten in conference play and a win over Texas Southern and Southern will win the conference. Look for the game against Southern as the won that determines the conference champion.

Division II Playoff Update:
The Division II playoffs kicked off this week and here are the results:
West Chester 52 Southern Connecticut State 32
Ashland 27 Minnesota State 16
Seton Hill 14 American International 7
Tusculum 34 Albany State 22

Next Week's Games:
Ashland vs Grand Valley State
Chadron State vs Minnesota-Duluth
Pittsburg State vs Northwest Missouri State
West Texas A&M vs Abeleine Christian
West Chester vs Bloomsburg
Tusculum vs Delta State
Valdosta State vs North Alabama
Seton Hill College vs California(PA)

What 2 Watch 4:
Ball State vs Central Michigan-Another good weeknight game as Ball State faces its last true test before the MAC Title Game as they take on Central Michigan. The Cardinals are on upset alert. Can CMU knock off the Cards or will Nate Davis and Co. continue running? Find out Wednesday at 7pm on ESPN2.

Texas Tech vs Oklahoma-If Texas Tech wins this then they're damn near guarenteed to win the Big XII South and head to the Big XII Title Game. However, the Sooners remember last year and look to spoil that and cause chaos in the BCS. Who will win? Find out Saturday at 8pm on ABC.

BYU vs Utah-The Mountain West is on the line in the "Holy War" as the Utes take on the Cougs. If Utah wins then they will clinch the Mountain West and possibly a BCS birth. Can the Utes pull it off? Find out Saturday at 6pm on The Mountain(Channel 616 Direct TV).

Michigan State vs Penn State-Its Senior Day in Happy Valley and the Lions look to win the Big Ten, and earn a spot in the Rose Bowl. Florida State vs Maryland-The ACC Atlantic is on the line as the Noles take on the Terps in College Park. If BC loses then either FSU or Maryland can win the ACC Atlantic by 10:30pm. Can the Noles and Rhodes Scholar Myron Rolle beat Maryland or will Christmas come early in College Park? Find out Saturday at 7:45pm on ESPN.

Ole Miss vs LSU-Last year Houston Nutt took a heavily-underdogged Arkansas team to Death Valley and beat the Tigers. This year Ole Miss wants to knock off LSU. Can the Rebels do it or will the Tigers survive another one? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on CBS.

Pitt vs Cincinnati-The Big East is on the line here as Cincy looks to win it against Pitt. However, Pitt has been a road team all year beating USF and Notre Dame on the road. Something has got to give. Who will win the Big East? Find out Saturday at 7pm on ESPN2.

Boston College vs Wake Forest-Wake lost to NC State but can clinch the Atlantic with a win here and a Maryland loss. BC, however, would like to avenge the loss to Wake two years ago and return to the ACC Title Game. Will BC "get back" or will Wake win it again? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on ABC/ESPN2(check your local listings).

Miami vs Georgia Tech-If you think the Atlantic is crazy then look at the Coastal. For the Canes they want to win their first conference title in 5 years. However, Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech has other things on their minds. Can the Canes go to Atlanta and upset Tech or will the Jackets come closer to winning the Coastal? Find out Thursday at 7:30pm on ESPN.

West Virginia vs Louisville-For the previous 3 years, this game has determined the Big East Champion...not this year but Louisville still hopes to get a bowl bid and end WVU's chances for the Big East title. Can Louisville repeat the magic of '06 or will the 'eers come closer to another Big East crown? Find out Saturday at 12pm on ESPN.

UCONN vs USF-Another marquee Big East matchup as the Huskies look to continue chasing the Big East crown. However, USF is angry and looks to crush the Huskies dreams. Can the Husks go into Tampa and win or will USF have another magic night? Find out Sunday at 8pm on ESPN.

Overall, an ok week of College Football. There was no "big time" matchups but the games were still entertaining. Next Saturday looks to be amazing though and it all starts with Central Michigan and Ball State on Wednesday. See you next week.

NFL Mid-Season Check Up

The 2008 NFL season is halfway done so lets take a glance at what the season looks like:

The Contenders:
Tennessee Titans-The Titans are 8-0, I am shocked. This is a very good football team that is modeled like the '85 Bears with a strong tough defense and a good run game. Chris Johnson and LenDale White might is a lethal 1-2 punch simular to how White and another speed back Reggie Bush was utilized at USC. The next few weeks will be tough for the Titans as they have to go to Chicago, Jacksonville, and Indianapolis. I see Tennessee finishing on top of the AFC.

New York Giants-Eli Manning is playing at his best, the run game is solid, and the defense is just as good as last year. Overall the New York Giants, in my opinion is the best team in the NFC. I see NYG staying solid and on top of the NFC.

Pittsburgh Steelers-The Steelmen have been doing quite well this season albeit struggling against NFC East teams(with the exception of Washington). Outside of Baltimore I feel Pittsburgh will easily win the AFC North.

Carolina Panthers-This is a team forgotten about. Not too many people think that they're deserving of it all. I feel with Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Hall, Jake Delhomme, and Steve Smith on offense and a very physical defense that the Carolina Panthers are back to 2003 form.

Washington Redskins-This is probably the best Redskin squad I've ever seen and the most dangerous. They have a fantastic run game and a good QB. The defense pretty much beat up Big Ben and the Steelers last night. However, I feel that they're more of a wildcard team.

Arizona Cardinals-The Cards seem to be finally turning it on behind the arm of Kurt Warner and the dawning of Tim Hightower. The defense is trying to improve but isn't quite there yet and no defense has shut them down so far. Look for the Cards to win the west.

The Deadsetters:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers-The Bucs are 6-2 but I feel its a weak 6-2. We'll learn more about them as the season keeps going.

Baltimore Ravens-The Ravs have looked good in some games and bad in others. Its clear the John Harbaugh has changed this team and improved them drastically. Joe Flacco is probably the best QB(outside of McNair) since Trent Dilfer in 2000. Overall I feel they can make the playoffs but they must demonstrate it full time.

Buffalo Bills-If this was 2 weeks ago they'd be in another category. However, following a 41-17 beatdown against Arizona and a loss to the Jets I feel this team is slipping. They could make it but at the same time they could crumble quick.

Chicago Bears-They're much better than expected but in all sincerity, with Kyle Orton out for a month 5-3 can turn into 5-7 fast. However, Sexy Rexy is a proven Super Bowl QB so lets see what he can do.

New York Jets-The Jets seemed like they were ready to take over the AFC East but they haven't been the 7-1 juggernaut that they've been saying. However, I feel the schedule is favorable with the Rams, Broncos, 49ers, Bills, and Seahawks coming up the Jets will finish strong.

Philadelphia Eagles-They were my dark horse in the NFC at the beginning of the year and they're still looking good but overall they need to recapture the NFC East from the Giants and Redskins...no easy task.

New England Patriots-Despite the loss of Tom Brady they're still winning the AFC East. However, the schedule has its difficult spots due to the fact they have to go to Miami, Buffalo(once at home), and face the Jets again.

Atlanta Falcons-They've been quite the surprise. All you had to do was replace Joey Harrington, Byron Leftwich, Warrick Dunn, and Bobby Petrino with Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, and Mike Smith and boom a winner.

Dallas Cowboys-The Tony Romo effect is in full force. Dallas is 1-2 since Romo left and they should've probably haven't won the one game. Romo should be back next week but if this gets worse and he isn't back by Thanksgiving expect them to be eliminated. Truth be told, however, even with Romo it wasn't working.

Indianapolis Colts-Peyton Manning and company have not seen anything this bad since Jim Mora was coaching. The team is getting up their in age and for this group it'll probably be their last chance to win the Super Bowl. However, there is something called the Titans in the way.

Minnesota Vikings-Gus Freorotte has somewhat fixed the team but he really hasn't been much of an impact let alone a star QB. This team is like the Titans with a tough run game and good defense. Even though Tennessee beat them in Week 4 a rematch would be interesting.

Miami Dolphins-Tony Sparano, Chad Pennington, and Bill Parcells has changed the culture of Miami. Last year they were 1-15 now they're 4-4. Truth be told they can still make the playoffs and they're a good football team especially with the re-emergence of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

Green Bay Packers-Yes this isn't the good '07 squad but this team may be just as good contrary to what the record says. Aaron Rodgers is a good QB just as I said in 2005. If anything Green Bay I think will win the NFC North and return to the playoffs.

New Orleans Saints-This team should be better than 4-4 they should be at least 6-2 but theirs been some crucial mistakes. Like the recent bust of illegal substances. Hard to tell how much that will affect the team.

Denver Broncos-Ok that was a quick fall. Denver in the first 3 weeks looked like the team in the AFC now they're 4-4. Will they keep falling or be back on top?

San Diego Chargers-Its been rough for San Diego first Merriman gets hurt then they lose at the last seconds to Carolina and Denver and now they're 3-5. Somewhere Marty Schottenheimer is laughing.

Cleveland Browns-Usually any kind of change is bad especially during the season(or at least middle) but maybe the switch from Derek Anderson to Brady Quinn will save this team...maybe.

Jacksonville Jaguars-NO ONE expected this. I had Jacksonville as the best team in the AFC prior to the season. Now...not so much.

Houston Texans-I think the Matt Schuab experiment is over. Like I said I hate midseason changes but maybe Sage Rosenfels can save them...or not.

Eliminated(at least I think so)
  • Oakland Raiders
  • St.Louis Rams
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Oakland Raiders
  • Detroit Lions
League Leaders:
Best QB Rating:Philip Rivers(San Diego Chargers)-Quite the surprise that the only one playing well is the QB. I think Philip has shown the potential I talked about when he was at N.C. State.

Rushing Yards:Clinton Portis(Washington Redskins)-Portis has not been this good since 2003 when he was with Denver. He is the work horse for this team and he will continue it.

Receiving Yards:Andre Johnson(Houston Texans)-Andre has been the only light for the Texans in their dark history. He is one of the best receivers in the league. If he only had a legit QB.

Tackles:D.J. Williams(Denver Broncos) and D'Qwell Jackson(Cleveland Browns)-Just to see how many tackles each will get on Thursday makes the Broncos/Browns match worth watching.

Sacks:Joey Porter(Miami Dolphins)-Truth be told could you imagine if he was still at Pittsburgh? No one would be able to run on them. Porter is THAT good.

This is going to be a doozy...

Interceptions:Nick Collins(Green Bay Packers), Charles Woodson(Green Bay Packers), Cort Finnegan(Tennessee Titans), O.J. Atogwe(St.Louis Rams), Darrelle Revis(New York Jets), Michael Griffen(Tennessee Titans)-Yeah thats enough writing.

Most Touchdowns:LenDale White(Tennessee Titans)-The big man has 10 touchdowns this season all rushing.

Most Points:David Akers(Philadelphia Eagles)-The Eagles long time kicker has been kickin his way through special teams.

Most Yards of Total Offense:New Orleans Saints

Most Rushing Yards:Atlanta Falcons

Most Passing Yards:New Orleans Saints

Most Points:Arizona Cardinals

Least Yards Surrendered:Pittsburgh Steelers

Least Rushing Yards Surrendered:Baltimore Ravens

Least Passing Yards Surrendered:Pittsburgh Steelers

Least Points Surrendered:Tennessee Titans

Now and Then:My Predictions August 2008 vs the Current NFL:
August 2008:
NFC East:Philadelphia Eagles
NFC North:Detroit Lions
NFC South:Carolina Panthers
NFC West:St.Louis Rams
Wildcard 1:Dallas Cowboys
Wildcard 2:Tampa Bay Buccaneers

AFC East:New England Patriots
AFC North:Pittsburgh Steelers
AFC South:Jacksonville Jaguars
AFC West:San Diego Chargers
Wildcard 1:Houston Texans
Wildcard 2:Indianapolis Colts

As of November 4, 2008:
NFC East:New York Giants
NFC North:Chicago Bears

Wildcard 1:Washington Redskins
Wildcard 2:Tampa Bay Buccaneers

AFC East:New England Patriots
AFC North:Pittsburgh Steelers
AFC South:Tennessee Titans
AFC West:Denver Broncos
Wildcard 1:New York Jets
Wildcard 2:Buffalo Bills

Analysis:Wow I am dead wrong so far on the NFC as the only division winner that has panned out is Carolina. Wildcard wise though Tampa Bay seems to be getting their. I felt the NFC West would not be as advertised on terms of every team(except the Rams) so far Arizona has came out looking damn good. I didn't expect Detroit to have a winning record(I so them as 7-9 in a weak division)so if anyone wants to try to figure out that one theres my answer.

The AFC predictions have somewhat panned out. I got half the division winners correct but wildcard is dead wrong. However, I feel my original scenario can still happen(albeit without Houston and Jacksonville who I had TONS of faith in going into the season).

My Predictions from November 4, 2008 until December 28th.

AFC:
East:New York Jets
North:Pittsburgh Steelers
South:Tennessee Titans
West:San Diego Chargers
Wildcard 1:Baltimore Ravens
Wildcard 2:Miami Dolphins

NFC:
East:Washington Redskins
North:Minnesota Vikings
South:Tampa Bay Buccaneers
West:Arizona Cardinals
Wildcard 1:New York Giants
Wildcard 2:Carolina Panthers

AFC Playoff Standings:
1.Tennessee Titans
2.Pittsburgh Steelers
3.New York Jets
4.San Diego Chargers
5.Baltimore Ravens
6.Miami Dolphins

NFC Playoff Standings:
1.Washington Redskins
2.Tampa Bay Buccaneers
3.Arizona Cardinals
4.Minnesota Vikings
5.New York Giants
6.Carolina Panthers

Playoffs:
Wild Card:
Jets over Dolphins
Cardinals over Panthers
Ravens over Chargers
Giants over Vikings

Divisionals:
Titans over Ravens
Giants over Redskins
Cardinals over Buccaneers
Steelers over Jets

AFC Championship:Steelers over Titans

NFC Championship:Giants over Cardinals

Super Bowl XLIII:Giants over Steelers

MVP:Eli Manning

What 2 Watch 4:
November 9th:
Saints vs Falcons
Titans vs Bears
Bills vs Patriots
Colts vs Steelers

November 13th:
Jets vs Patriots

November 23rd:
Patriots vs Dolphins

December 14th:
Bills vs Jets
Steelers vs Ravens

December 28th:
Patriots vs Bills
Giants vs Vikings
Dolphins vs Jets

Overall:The first half of the 2008 NFL Season has been quite interesting with new teams at the top(Tennessee and Washington) and the old guards of the decade fading(New England, Indianapolis, San Diego). Lets see what happens for the rest of 2008.

College Football Review:Week 10

There is a new Number 1 in College Football and I am sick and tired of Sunday night games. Lets get it rolling.

Game of the Week:Texas vs Texas Tech-As Ron Simmons would say, "DAMN". This was a great game without a doubt. On one end of the spectrum you have Texas who had just beaten Oklahoma, Missouri, and Oklahoma State in consecutive weeks on the other you have a Texas Tech team ready to break on through to the other side. Texas Tech dominated the Longhorns early leading 19-0 but the Horns rallied back to take a 33-32 lead with 1:29 to go. It was a big mistake as the Red Raiders drove down field and with 1 second to spare Graham Harrell hit Michael Crabtree for the game winning touchdown. For the 2nd year in the row Lubbock was a big party. Tech has finally impressed me.

Player of the Week:Oklahoma's offense-Usually this only goes to 1 player but in this case you have to award the entire Sooner offense. Oklahoma came out on Saturday night and scored 28 points in the first 5 minutes of the game. Nebraska was just beaten as OU led 35-0 in the 1st quarter. Truth be told if OU scored like they did in the first five minutes this could've easily been 336-0. Is Bill Callahan still at NU?

Dissapointment of the Week:Georgia Bulldogs-At 3:30pm on Saturday the Georgia Bulldogs came onto the field at Alltell Stadium with the notion that if they win they could head to Atlanta the next month for the SEC Title game and possibly Miami the following month for the National Championship game. By 6:30pm the dream was over as Florida demolished Matt Stafford and Knoshown Mareno en route to a 49-10 beatdown. You'd think after the Bama game they'd hit reality but once again Florida brings them down to earth.

Surprise Team of the Week:Arkansas Razorbacks-Bobby Petrino may have turned a corner with this team as the Hogs beat undefeated Tulsa 30-23 on Saturday. Its not last year when Houston Nutt, Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, and Co. beat LSU in Baton Rouge but it felt like it. Maybe just maybe this team will succeed.

Numbers:
58.8-Colt McCoy's completion percentage in the Longhorn's loss to the Red Raiders on Saturday. His lowest all year.

35-The amount of points Oklahoma scored in the 1st Quarter in their 62-28 beatdown of Nebraska.

5-The amount of games where Graham Harrell has thrown more than 400 passing yards.

1975-The last time that Georgia Tech had beaten Florida State prior to their 31-28 victory over the Noles.

2007-The year most Razorback fans felt it was during their 30-23 win over Tulsa.

23-The amount of points Arkansas gave up against Tulsa. It was the lowest amount of points that the Hurricanes had all year.

440-The amount of total offense by Armanti Edwards in Appalachian State's 70-24 win over the Terriers, who a year earlier beat App State. Think of it this way...Armanti Edwards had more yards alone than South Carolina did as a team when they played Wofford.

The Contenders:
Penn State-The Nittany Lions were off this week but will return next week to play Iowa.

Texas Tech-It took them 2 months but they finally convinced me. Yes the Red Raiders are real. They throw the ball well and have a halfway decent run game being established and their defense has shut down both Colt McCoy and Todd Reesing.

The Deadsetters:
Oklahoma-The Sooners just killed Nebraska. They just flat out killed them. This game was over the minute it started. Oklahoma was up 28-0 with 10 minutes left in the 1st QUARTER. Bo Pelini wishes he was still in Baton Rouge.

USC-Once again the Trojans kill a Pac 10 team this time it was Washington. Fun Fact:USC has beaten both Washington schools by a total of 125-0.

Florida-Wow simply put wow. Florida went out there on Saturday and just beatdown Georgia. Hell UGA didn't score a touchdown until garbage time. This could've been 49-0 easily.

Oklahoma State-The Cowboys keep riding high this time they defeated Iowa State. With Texas falling and Texas Tech and Oklahoma coming up, the Cowboys hope to get back into the Big XII South race and National Title hunt.

The Unknown:
Alabama-Still not seeing it yet. I feel that while Bama has no competition from here til December 6th I think they may slip against LSU if not that then December 6th against(most likely) Florida will end the Tide's run.

Eliminated From Contention:
Georgia-Great Expectations isn't just a novel its the story of the Georgia Bulldogs every season and like in the book theres a sad ending.

Florida State-Gotta hand it to the Noles they fought hard to the bitter end against Georgia Tech but once again they're eliminated. However, keep an eye out for this team in the next few years.

The Heisman Hunt:
My Top 5 Heisman Contenders:
1.Graham Harrell-QB(Texas Tech)
2.Colt McCoy-QB(Texas)
3.Sam Bradford-QB(Oklahoma)
4.Javon Ringer-RB(Michigan State)
5.Michael Crabtree-WR(Texas Tech)

The Mid-Major National Title Update:
Contenders:
Utah Utes(9-0)-The Utes almost slipped to New Mexico on Saturday. If they're not careful then TCU could sneak up on them on Thursday. Just ask BYU.

Boise State Broncos(8-0)-The Broncs took it to the other New Mexico school by knocking off State 49-0.

Ball State Cardinals(8-0)-The Cards have a tough one on Wednesday against Northern Illinois so lets see if the Cards can make it.

Still Alive(At the Moment):
BYU Cougars(8-1)-The Cougs had a war with Colorado State on Saturday and barely got out of it.

TCU Horned Frogs(9-1)-The Frogs came out on Saturday and demolished UNLV. Now on Thursday the Frogs have the opportunity to clinch the Mountain West. But Air Force will be breathing down their neck until November 22nd.

Tulsa Golden Hurricanes(8-1)-Sometimes overconfidence kills. This is the case for Tulsa as Arkansas came ready to play and they beat the Canes. However, they are not out yet.

The Mid-10 Rankings:
1.Utah 9-0(Mountain West)
2.Boise State 8-0(WAC)
3.Ball State 8-0(MAC)
4.TCU 9-1(Mountain West)
5.BYU 8-1(Mountain West)
6.Tulsa 8-1(C-USA)
7.Central Michigan 7-2(MAC)
8.Air Force 7-2(Mountain West)
9.Western Michigan 7-2(MAC)
10.San Jose State 6-3(WAC)

The FCS Championship Hunt:
Background:The FCS(or Football Championship Subdivision or Division I-AA) is the 2nd level of College Football. This is for schools that have an enrollment between 1,000 to 15,000 people. In 1973, the NCAA declared a seperation in divisions due to distance is finances and enrollment thus creating Division I and Division II. By 1978, however, it prooved to not be enough and so I and II were split into I-A, I-AA, II, and III. In 2006, in order to gain more credibility, the NCAA renamed I-AA the FCS(Football Championship Subdivision.

Unlike the FBS(Football Bowl Subdivision or I-A) the FCS has a 16-team playoff. However, most conferences in FCS decline to participate(The Ivy League, the Pioneer Football League, and Northeast Conference) while the SWAC conference isn't allowed(for their championship is played on Thanksgiving weekend). However, all teams remain eligible if they have 7 or more wins. For the SWAC, however, you can not win the conference(or even participate in the championship game) and still make the playoffs. However, the SWAC never usually accepts the bid(the last team from the conference to go to the playoffs was Jackson State in 1997 and the conference is 0-19 all-time in the playoffs.

Also ineligible for the playoffs are teams transitioning from a lower division(Division II or III) into the FCS until they're a member for 2 seasons. The only team that has been highly ranked and excluded was #3 North Dakota State in 2006(who are eligible this year). The list of conferences whose winners are automatically in are:Big Sky, CAA, MEAC, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, Patriot League, Southern, and Southland. Other conferences are included by invite only such as the Big South(albeit automatic in 2010), teams that are not sponsored by conference, Great West, Northeast(albeit automatic in 2010), and the Pioneer Football League. Here is the I-AA update.

Big Sky:Weber State has all but clinched the conference as they sit at 6-0 in conference going into Saturday's game with Idaho State. A win over ISU and the Cats will make the playoffs. This team isn't too bad either as they lost to Hawaii on the road and held Utah in check until halftime.

CAA:This is an interesting month in the conference as this week, New Hampshire of the North faces Villanova of the South. In what will be an elimination game, UMass will face Maine. Next week may determine the division winner with UMass facing New Hampshire. In the South, James Madison could clinch the division with a Villanova loss and a win over William & Mary next week.

MEAC:South Carolina State escaped Delaware State to stay undefeated in the division and get a breather against Howard this week. However, next week will be the one to determine the conference when they play Morgan State.

MVC:Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, and South Dakota State are battling for this division at the moment. Head-to-Head, NIU beat SDST but lost to Southern Ill. This week they take on Missouri State. Southern Illinois plays Western Illinois in what will possibly determine if the Siloukis stay alive in the title hunt before facing South Dakota State next week. As for the Jackrabbits they will face Illinois State this week.

Ohio Valley:Tennessee-Martin, Eastern Kentucky, and Tennessee State are battling up top in that conference while Ryan Perrilioux and Jacksonville State look up at them. TSU already beat UTM and EKU. If they can beat Eastern Illinois, Jacksonville State, and Murray State then they will win the conference.

Patriot League:Colgate and Holy Cross are duking it out for the title and will square off on November 22nd. Until then the 'Gate will play Lehigh while Holy Cross gets Fordham and Lafeyette. Lets not forget Lafeyette and Lehigh, however. If these two can beat the Cross and the Gate they will be battling for the conference on the 22nd also. Keep an eye on these four.

Southern Conference:Appalachian State has already taken care of Wofford and now its Chattonoga this week and Elon next week. If Appy State can take care of these two they should win the conference by next week.

Southland Conference:Central Arkansas lost its first game in conference against Nicholls State and now find themselves tied with Northwestern State for first place. Meanwhile McNeese State, Texas State, Stephen F. Austin, and Nicholls State keep breathing down their neck. We'll see how it goes in the next few weeks.

The Ivy League:Brown defeated Pennsylvania to take 1st place in the Conference. This week they get Yale. If they can win out then the Bears will be looking at the championship. Expect Brown to clinch it next week with a win over Dartmouth.

SWAC:Jackson State and Alabama A&M will square off next week in what may be the determining factor in the East. However, they must take on Alabama State and Prairie View A&M respectively. Grambling State has pretty much clinched the West for the only team close to them is Prairie View A&M and they have already demolished them. However, November 29th against Southern will be a tough one and may determine who wins the West.

Find out Saturday at 8pm on ESPN.

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies

The 2008 MLB season is over and for the first time since 1980 the Phillies are World Champions as they beat the Rays 4 games to 1. It took two rain delays but it happened and as a result the Phillies also give the city of Brotherly Love its first major sport championship since 1983 when the Sixers beat the Lakers. But don't count the Rays out, they're young and they'll be around for a long time under good managing by Joe Maddon and young players like Scott Kazmir and Evan Longoria. Lets not forget about the Phillies or other teams like the Saux and the Cubs and up-and-coming teams like the Orioles, Blue Jays, Yankees, Dodgers, and the always good Los Angeles Angels.

The 2009 MLB season should be interesting. Congrads Phils

College Football Review:Week 9

I'm a little late and have only til 7:30 on Thursday to finish so lets get going

Game of the Week:Oklahoma State vs Texas-That...was...good...damn good. Oklahoma State went out there Saturday and took the #1 team in the country to its limits...on its own field...what does this mean? It means that despite OSU's loss they're STILL a Top 5 team. Oklahoma State fans should not be sad for they're still in. Remember Texas STILL has Texas Tech and Kansas.

Player of the Week:Graham Harrel(Texas Tech)-The Red Raider Quarterback went against a REAL defense this week in Kansas and just flat out demolished them for 386 passing yards and 6 overall touchdowns(5 passing and 1 running). Texas Tech looks a little more...scary...

Dissapointment of the Week:Auburn's defense-All season long the Auburn Tigers have been carried by one thing...their defense. Just when it finally seemed the offense was clicking...the defense dies and so does Auburn's offense. Auburn led West Virginia 17-3 at one point and gave up 31 unanswered to fall 34-17. It gets no easier for Tommy Tubberville and his Tigers.

Surprise Team of the Week:Rutgers-WHERE THE HELL DID THAT COME FROM? Rutgers only averaged what? 15 points a game? Mike Teel looked like Joe Montana in the Knight's 54-34 rout of a very good Pittsburgh team. With wins over UCONN and Pitt maybe the Scarlet Knights aren't dead.

Numbers:

1978-The last time Penn State beat Ohio State in Columbus before their 13-6 escape of the Buckeyes on Saturday

55-The amount of points scored by Oklahoma in the 1st half of their 58-35 win over Kansas State

16-The average amount of points per game that Rutgers was averaging prior to their 54-34 beatdown of Pitt

21-The average amount of points per game that Rutgers has now averaged following their 54-34 beatdown of Pitt

4-The amount of consecutive wins UVA has over teams they weren't supposed to beat

24-The amount of 4th Quarter points scored by Cal in their 41-20 win over UCLA. Take out the first three quarters and Cal still wins 24-20.

The Contenders:

Texas-Once again the Longhorns take on a Top 10 team and once again they beat them. A win over Texas Tech next week and the Longhorns might shatter a record.

Penn State-Adversity is the enemy of many and a judging tool for all. Penn State trailed Ohio State 6-3 in the 4th Quarter when Quarterback Daryl Clark got hurt. They bring in Pat Devlin someone that no one has ever heard of outside of Happy Valley and wherever he comes from and he drives the Nittany Lions down the field. Got to hand it to Penn State they fought back and conquered.

The Deadsetters:

Oklahoma-The Sooners offense is unstoppable. No team has really stopped it. Hell Oklahoma's lowest point total is 35 against TCU and Texas. Their 55 first half points proove it. Can the Sooners ride back to the National Title Game?

USC-The Trojans are really lucky in winning this game. Arizona had them on the ropes but could never capitolize...the result is the Trojans staying alive another week.

Georgia-They went into Baton Rouge and just destroyed the LSU defense which was supposed to be the strength of the team. Look out for...

Florida-The Gators completely curb stomped Kentucky en route to a 63-5 victory. Now Florida/Georgia face off in an elimination game.

Florida State-Again the Noles shake their way out of defeat. This time a good defense and injuries to Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon led the way as the Noles defeated the Hokies 27-20.

Oklahoma State-The Cowboys are just as good as Texas and possibly better than Oklahoma. There I said it, anyone who doubts them now just needs to shut up.

The Unknown:

Texas Tech-The Red Raiders offense looked amazing and their defense just demolished a very good Kansas offense that not even Oklahoma could stop. However, consistancy is a must and Texas Tech needs to knock off Texas and repeat their offense performance to get some R-E-S-P-E-C-T from me.

Alabama-The Tide went in to Knoxville and just beat Tennessee...oh its not 1998. That it don't impress me much.

Eliminated From Contention:

South Florida-Maybe next year for the Bulls. If they were playing warm weather games year round(ala SEC) they'd be alright but the cold North hurts.

Pittsburgh-I hyped them up and they fell right back down.

Boston College-Jeff Jagazinski has built a tough program at BC so they aren't going away.

The Mid-Major National Title Update:
Contenders:
Utah Utes(8-0)-The Utes were off this week but they take the road against a New Mexico team that beat Arizona.

Boise State Broncos(7-0)-San Jose State gave them a scare but the Broncos escape as the road to the Mountain West title gets a little easier for the Broncs.

Ball State Cardinals(8-0)-BSU took out Eastern Michigan over the weekend. They'll be off this weekend before facing Northern Illinois, Miami(OH), Central and Western Michigan.

Tulsa Golden Hurricanes(8-0)-The Canes took out UCF over the weekend and now Arkansas, Houston, Tulane, Marshall, and the C-USA Title game left, the Canes hope to convince voters that they're eligible. Fun fact, prior to last season Tulsa was scheduled to play Texas Tech this season. Imagine THAT matchup.

Still Alive(at the moment):
BYU Cougars(7-1)-The Cougs suffered another scare against UNLV but pulled it out to stay within the title hunt.

TCU Horned Frogs(8-1)-The Frogs destroyed Wyoming over the weekend. In order to win the championship they'll have to pray and knock off a good Utah team next week. But lets worry about UNLV first.

The Mid-10 Rankings:
1.Utah 8-0(Mountain West)
2.Boise State 7-0(WAC)
3.Ball State 8-0(MAC)
4.Tulsa 8-0(Conference USA)
5.TCU 8-1(Mountain West)
6.BYU 7-1(Mountain West)
7.Central Michigan 6-2(MAC)
8.Air Force 6-2(Mountain West)
9.Troy 5-2(Sun Belt)
10.Western Michigan 6-2(MAC)

What 2 Watch 4:
USF vs Cincinnati-The Big East is on the line here. If the Bearcats want to stay alive they must beat the Bulls. Same for South Florida. Who will stay alive? Find out Thursday at 7:30pm on ESPN.

Texas vs Texas Tech-Again...first to 100 wins...this is going to be a pass happy game. If you like defenses don't even watch. Who will win the battle of the Lone Star state? Find out Saturday at 8pm on ABC.

Florida vs Georgia-This will be the elimination match. The winner will go to the SEC Championship game...that is a guarentee. The loser is out of the SEC Championship game and out of the National title hunt. For both teams it comes down to this. Who will prevail? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on CBS.

Florida State vs Georgia Tech-Speaking of rivals...we find UF and UGA's rivals facing off in an interesting ACC matchup that could be the Championship game come December. In the battle of Florida vs Georgia...who will win. You can flip back and forth between this and UF/UGA Saturday at 3:30pm on ABC(check your local listings).

Northwestern vs Minnesota-Truth be told, one year ago these teams sucked...now they're the headline of the Big Ten this weekend. The Gophers keep winning and the Wildcats are trying to bounce back. Who is the REAL comeback kid? Find out Saturday at 12pm on ESPN2.

Oregon vs California-Last year this was the Pac 10 match of the year. This year the Pac 10 is on the line again and the winner has a real shot at winning it. Who will prevail? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on ABC(check your local listings).

West Virginia vs UCONN-In another Big East battle we find the Huskies seeking revenge on the Mountaineers following WVU's 66-12 beatdown of UCONN in Morgantown. Can the Huskies avenge last year and win the Big East or is it a repeat for the Mountaineers? Find out Saturday at 12pm(check your local listings).

Wofford vs Appalachian State-This is a match everyone forgets about. Last year Wofford beat the Mountaineers and almost derailed their three-peat. This year the Mounts seek revenge in beating Wofford and staying alive. Can Appy State stay alive for a four-peat? Find out Friday at 8pm on ESPN2.

Miami vs Virginia-Last year the Cavs went into the Orange Bowl and beat the Canes 48-0. This year. Miami seeks revenge. However, UVA has showed up late in the ACC Coastal Division battle and hopes to turn that 1-3 start into a happy ending and perhaps a BCS Bowl birth. Can the Cavs stay hot and win the ACC or will Miami exact revenge? Find out Saturday at 12pm(check your local listings).

Duke vs Wake Forest-Its the ACC's Academic Bowl as the rising Duke Blue Devils take on a falling Wake Forest Demon Deacans. This is a swing game for both teams. If the Devils can win they can use this to reach 6 wins and a bowl birth, a BIG improvement from last year while the Deacans hope to save their season and their chance at an ACC Championship. Whose dream will come true? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on ESPN 360(check your online provider).

Current NCAA Leaders:
Most Rushing Yards:Javon Ringer(Michigan State)-Ringer leads the NCAA with 1,373 rushing yards as he attempts to carry the Spartans to a Big Ten title.

Most Receiving Yards:Aldrick Robinson(SMU)-The Mustang Receiver leads the NCAA with 1,003 receiving yards. He may be the best prospect to come from SMU since the Pony Express.

Most Passing Yards:Graham Harrel(Texas Tech)-Granted its the Run and Shoot but Harrel is very accruate and has a good arm. With 3,147 passing yards Harrel is torching defenses weekly.

Most Overall Points:Javon Ringer(Michigan State)-Gotta hand it to the kid. Mark Dantonio has re-established the run game at Michigan State through him. The pass game has gotten a boast too from the Senior. Ringer is real...

Most Interceptions:Morgan Burnett(Georgia Tech)-The Yellow Jacket Corner has made offenses scared with his six pix on the year. Paul Johnson has re-created the tough Yellow Jacket D.

Most Accurate Quarterback:Colt McCoy(Texas)-81.8 percent completion...that is phenominal. The Real McCoy has came out and torn apart every defense he's faced.

Most Passing Touchdowns:David Johnson(Tulsa)-Forget Paul Smith...theres a new man in Tulsa, Oklahoma and thats David Johnson with 32 touchdowns.

Most Rushing Touchdowns:Javon Ringer(Michigan State)-16 touchdowns...may I need to say more?

Most Receiving Touchdowns:Jarett Dilliard(Rice) and Michael Crabtree(Texas Tech)-Both gentlemen have 14 receiving touchdowns and may double it before the season is over. With each great receiver comes a great Quarterback...both of these men have great QBs who can help them get it done.

Highest Scoring Average:Tulsa-The Golden Hurricanes have the best offense in College Football averaging close to 56 points a game. I can hear the '83 Huskers cry as their record may as the Stones say be shattered.

Highest Rushing Yard Average:Louisiana-Lafeyette-This surprised me too considering the Navys, Georgia Techs, and WVUs of college football but the Ragin Cajuns lead with an average of 311 rushing yards a game.

Highest Passing Yard Average:Texas Tech-The Red Raiders have been red hot throwing the ball under Mike Leach and this year is no exception as they lead with an average of 418 passing yard average.

The week already started as Marshall beat Houston and Buffalo beat Ohio. You can now enjoy the rest of the weekend as it kicks off with USF and Cincy tomorrow night and concludes with UCF/ECU on Sunday. Enjoy :).

The 2008 NBA Season

Finally, its Basketball season as the NBA will kick off next week with a day of great games. Last year the Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 4 games to 2 in the finals. Here are my predictions for the 2008-2009 NBA season.

Eastern Conference:
Atlantic:Boston Celtics
Central:Detroit Pistons
Southeast:Orlando Magic
Wildcard 1:Cleveland Caviliers
Wildcard 2:Philadelphia 76ers
Wildcard 3:Washington Wizards
Wildcard 4:Indiana Pacers
Wildcard 5:Miami Heat

Eastern Conference Finals:Boston over Cleveland

Western Conference:
Northwest:Denver Nuggets
Pacific:Los Angeles Lakers
Southwest:Houston Rockets
Wildcard 1:San Antonio Spurs
Wildcard 2:Dallas Mavericks
Wildcard 3:New Orleans Hornets
Wildcard 4:Utah Jazz
Wildcard 5:Golden State Warriors

Western Conference Finals:Rockets over Lakers

2009 NBA Finals:Celtics over Rockets

World Series Predictions

Another World Series has came upon us and once again I am dead wrong on predictions. At the beginning of the year I had the Yankees over the Cubs in the World Series. While the Cubs made the playoffs, the Yanks faltered and now we're with the unlikely Tampa Bay Rays versus the Philadelphia Phillies. I was quite surprised as I had the Rays eliminated by the Saux. It almost happened, but Tampa squeezed out a victory on Sunday night setting up this matchup. Following the American League's 3-2 win over the National League, the AL team was given the World Series. Thus 4 of the games will be played in Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field.

Here is the schedule for the World Series:
Game 1:October 22nd at Tampa Bay 8pm FOX
Game 2:October 23rd at Tampa Bay 8:30pm FOX
Game 3:October 25th at Philadelphia 8pm FOX
Game 4:October 26th at Philadelphia 8pm FOX
Game 5:October 27th at Phialdelphia 8pm FOX
Game 6:October 29th at Tampa Bay 8pm FOX
Game 7:October 30th at Tampa Bay 8pm FOX

My prediction for the World Series is that the Rays will win in 6. Taking Games 1, 2, 4, and 6.

What will happen? Find out tomorrow night.

College Football Review:Week 8

Week 8 of the 2008 College Football season is over. Let's take a look at this week

Best Game of the Week:Virginia Tech vs Boston College-Round 3 of the Va.Tech/BC saga went full swing as the Eagles took down the Hokies 28-23 in Boston on Saturday. The win gives the Eagles the edge in the ACC Atlantic Division title race. For Va.Tech, it is their first ACC lost. Who will win this wild conference.

Best Player of the Week:Colt McCoy(Texas)-29/32...thats all that needs to be said. Colt McCoy went out on Saturday night and demolished a very good Missouri team. This game was over in the 2nd Quarter when the Horns took a 35-0 lead. They never looked back and now Texas looks poised to win the conference and Colt McCoy the Heisman Trophy.

Dissapointment of the Week:Missouri-National Championship teams go out every Saturday and win. Even after they lose they have to bounce back and win. Mizzou did not do that and the result is a 56-31 blowout loss to the now frontrunner Texas Longhorns.

Surprise Team of the Week:Ohio State-Not too many expected the Buckeyes to even beat Michigan State let alone destroy them like they did. Ohio State exploded going up 28-0 en route to a 45-7 route of Michigan State. Gotta hand it to the Buckeyes they continue to fight.

Numbers:
1896-The last time Mizzou beat Texas in Austin...102 years and counting...

39-Total amount of points unanswered score by Penn State in their 46-17 win over Michigan on Saturday

67-The amount of total rushing yards Javon Ringer was held too in MSU's 45-7 loss to Ohio State

1955-The last time Maryland shut out a ranked team prior to the Terps 26-0 win over Wake Forest

91-Colt McCoy's completion percentage in Texas' 56-31 win over Missouri

The Contenders:

Texas-Do I need to say anymore? The Longhorns are real...much real. Texas went out on Saturday night and demolished a very good Missouri team. With one down and many to go. Can UT repeat 2005?

Oklahoma State-Many put OSU on upset alert but they responded knocking off Baylor 34-6. For OSU, however, it gets no easier...especially this week when they travel to Austin to face the Longhorns.

Penn State-Truth be told, they almost played their way off this list on Saturday against lowly Michigan. But they held strong and stormed back to beat the Wolverines for the first time since 1996. Its been a long time. But good things come to those who wait.

The Deadsetters:

Oklahoma-Another poor showing from the OU defense. The offense scored quickly and often but the defense was down again as OU beat Kansas 45-31 on Saturday. If OU's defense doesn't improve then they will struggle against Oklahoma State and whoever they face in the Big XII championships. Defense wins championships.

USC-Once again, the Trojans faced a lowly Pac 10 team and once again they demolished them. This week's victim was Washington State. The Trojans went up north and just 69'd them.

Georgia-The Dawgs are showing signs of hope as they knocked off Vanderbilt 24-13. However, Vandy is much different than the teams they get in the next two weeks...LSU and Florida.

South Florida-The Bulls are staying alive in good fashion as they knocked off Syracuse 45-13. USF is still pondering over the loss to Pitt, but in the world of college football things change often and fast.

Pittsburgh-Revenge tastes sweet in the steel city. In what was a good weekend for Pittsburgh football itself, the Panthers took a little ounce of revenge on Navy beating them 42-21 in Annapolis. Pitt will end October against Rutgers before facing the likes of Notre Dame, Cincinnati, and West Virginia in November.

Florida State-The Seminoles had a tad scare against N.C. State but it was short-lived as the Noles took out the Wolfpack 26-17. For FSU its a tough road to stay alive, however, as they face Virginia Tech on Saturday and begin November with Georgia Tech before facing Boston College, Maryland, and Florida.

Boston College-B.C. is one of those teams that people forget about. But this team is memorable. At the moment they're 5-1...but they should be 6-0. BC is THAT good. Jeff Jagozinski is not going away neither is Boston College. However the cold is coming in as BC takes on North Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida State, Wake Forest, and Maryland over the next few weeks.

The Unknown:

Texas Tech-Again Tech scores 40 plus. But again Tech gives up points to teams they shouldn't be giving points up to. This team Texas Tech gave up 25 points against Texas A&M who isn't exactly last years or the year before's Aggies. Texas Tech's next 4 games are against ranked opponetts...3 of which are in the y25 Top 5. All with top offense. Its going to be a cold autumn for the Hot Red Raiders.

Alabama-Talk about a collapse...Bama was up 24-3 at halftime on Ole Miss and slipped again nearly losing to the Rebels but hung on to escape 24-20. November 1st in Baton Rouge should be interesting.

Eliminated From Contention:

Wake Forest-A good defense saves a bad offfense...just not when the defense is just as bad.

Missouri-56-31...what else can I say?

Vanderbilt-They're still a reasonable good football team...they just need an offense.

Kansas-They tried...truth be told Aqib Talib would've made a HUGE difference had he stayed another year.

North Carolina-First it was Maryland, now its the Tar Heels...Virginia Cavaliers...dream killers?

Michigan State-1966 was the last time the Spartans were even in contention for the National Title. Some say they should've been champions...but they weren't. The result is that MSU is once again non-championship eligible. They're still a good team, however and can still make a run for the Rose Bowl.

The Mid-Major National Title Update:

Contenders:

Utah(8-0)-The Utes did what they needed to do. On Saturday they went out and beat up on another team. However, the Mountain West isn't easy with TCU and BYU left.

Boise State(6-0)-Revenge tastes sweet as the Broncos got revenge on Hawaii for last year's defeat. Hopefully they can duplicate Hawaii's success and get to a BCS Bowl game...just not with the same results.

Ball State(7-0)-The Cardinals were off but they will be back

Tulsa(7-0)-Again the Tulsa offense looked great...but the defense struggled. Against UTEP it was 28-28 at the end of the 1st Quarter. However, UTEP's offense faltered and Tulsa outscored them 42-7 the rest of the way to win 70-35 over the Miners. Remember, Tulsa still has East Carolina, Houston, and the C-USA championship.

Still Alive(At the Moment)

BYU(6-1)-The difference between the BCS and the JCS is that in the JCS you can lose 32-7 and still contend for the title. The Cougs however, needs TCU to lose, beat Utah and hope the MAC, WAC, and C-USA can take out the rest.

TCU(7-1)-This is a good football team. They held down OU's running game and beat a very good passing offense at BYU. I feel if OU had went to Fort Worth instead of Norman then TCU would've shown them whose boss. They still have Utah, however.

The Mid-10 Rankings:

1.Utah 7-0(Mountain West)

2.Boise State 6-0(WAC)

3.Ball State 7-0(MAC)

4.Tulsa 7-0(C-USA)

5.TCU 7-1(Mountain West)

6.BYU 6-1(Mountain West)

7.Central Michigan 5-2(MAC)

8.Air Force 5-2(Mountain West)

9.Troy 4-2(Sun Belt)

10.Western Michigan 6-2(MAC)

What 2 Watch 4:
Boise State vs San Jose State-There is always something about Friday Night Football. To many its the High School games...but to me its college. Friday Night Football has great games always. This one is no exception. In my opinion, Boise State is on upset alert. Can San Jose State pull it off? Find out Friday at 9pm on ESPN2.

Oklahoma State vs Texas-4 out of the last 5 years, Oklahoma State has had Texas on the ropes...and 4 out of the last 5 years, Oklahoma State has blown it. This Cowboy team is different, however, as they're better on offense and tougher on defense. Can OSU FINALLY beat Texas? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on ABC(check your local listings).

Penn State vs Ohio State-The last time Joe Pa won in Columbus was before ANY of the players were born. Can Joe Pa end the nightmare? Find out Saturday at 8pm on ABC.

Georgia vs LSU-This was one of the nightmare games I was refering to when talking about Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs. Yes LSU struggled against Florida but if you remember, this is in Death Valley and Les Miles is crazy. Can LSU beat Georgia? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on CBS.

Texas Tech vs Kansas-First one to 100 wins, this will be a shootout guarenteed. As Graham Harrel and the fast striking Raider offense head to Lawrence to face Todd Reesing and the Kansas Jayhawks. Who will win this shootout? Find out Saturday at 12pm on ESPN.

Virginia vs Georgia Tech-UVA has knocked off Maryland, East Carolina, and North Carolina the last few weeks. Will Georgia Tech fall victim to the comeback Cavs? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on ESPNU.

Virginia Tech vs Florida State-Va.Tech has never beaten Florida State on the road or even at a neutral site game. Last year the Hokies beat FSU for the first time ever at home. This year, however, the site is Tallahassee. Can Beamer and the Hokes finally beat FSU? Find out Saturday at 3:30pm on ABC(check your local listings).

Boston College vs North Carolina-Another wild ACC match-up. This time you have a returning BC trying to defend its ACC Atlantic Title against a tough upstart North Carolina team. BC is on upset alert. Can the Tar Heels beat the Eagles? Find out Saturday at 12pm(check your local listings).

Notre Dame vs Washington-Its Tyrone Willingham vs Charlie Weis, its been 4 years since Willingham left South Bend. Now with his job on the line, can Ty and his Huskies beat the Irish at home? Find out Saturday at 8pm on ESPN2.

Another great weekend of College Football as we head toward November. What other surprises await us this week? It all starts tonight at 8pm on ESPN2 as Ohio takes on Temple.

y25 and Conference Standings(Week 8)

College Football in Review:Week 7

Week 7 of the 2008 College Football season is over lets take a look at the week

Best Game of the Week:Texas vs Oklahoma-The Red River Rivalry had a big time classic in one of the highest games in its history as Texas knocked off Oklahoma 45-35. The win for the Longhorns makes the series a 58-40-5 lead for Texas. Colt McCoy was outdueled by Sam Bradford, but Special Teams, defense, and running the ball made the difference for this one. As a result, Texas is now Number 1 in the AP, Coaches, y25, and possibly BCS. We'll find out the latter later.

Best Player of the Week:Jordan Shipley(Texas)-The Texas wide receiver was a difference maker on Saturday as he recieved 112 yards, 1 touchdown, and a 96 yard kick return for a touchdown. Had not been for Shipley this may have been a different game.

Dissapointment of the Week:LSU-The Tigers weren't favored but to go out and play the way they did on Saturday justifies their spot here. LSU didn't just lose to Florida they were demolished by the Gators. In the SEC, you can bounce back quick as many teams fall every week. Can LSU climb back up?

Surprise Team of the Week:Mississippi State-For Sylvester Croom and the Bulldogs its been a dissapointing year. Last year they had knocked off Alabama and UCF in an 8-5 season. This year the Dogs are 2-4. The win Saturday helps, but that 4 loss deficit hurts. Either way gotta hand it to them they beat a very good Vandy team.

Numbers:

35-The total amount of rushing yards by James Davis and C.J. Spiller in Clemson's 12-7 loss on Thursday to Wake Forest

225-The total yards by Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley in the Longhorns 45-35 win over Oklahoma

52-The amount of drives Missouri went without a three and out. This ended on Saturday as Oklahoma State shut down Mizzou en route to a 28-23 win in Columbia

21-The amount of 4th Quarter points by Nebraska in their 37-31 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday. The Huskers trailed the Red Raiders 24-10 in the 4th Quarter and shut down Texas Tech's high-powered offense

1960-The last time North Carolina had beaten Notre Dame before their 29-24 win over the Irish on Saturday

3-The amount of consecutive games that East Carolina has lost in a row. The Pirates started the year with wins over Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Tulane but have lost three straight to N.C. State, Houston, and now Virginia

The Contenders:

Texas-They're legit. The Longhorns prooved it on Saturday by beating a very good Oklahoma squad. But thats only the first task. Texas gets Missouri next week, and Oklahoma State in 2 weeks. The good news...they're both at home...the bad news, next month Texas gets Kansas and Texas Tech on the road.

Oklahoma State-The Cowboys were questionable at the beginning of the week, but now they are proven. OSU knocked off Missouri on Saturday but its no easy task for the rest of the season. Okie State still has Texas, Texas Tech, Colorado, and Oklahoma on the table.

Penn State-Texas, Penn State, Alabama, and USC in the top 10? What is this? 1978? The Nittany Lions are on top of the Big Ten following their 48-7 demolishing of Wisconsin on Saturday. The Lions still have Ohio State in Columbus but otherwise, it should be an easy trip through the rest of the season.

The Deadsetters:

Wake Forest-Wake stayed alive in the National Title hunt following an ugly 12-7 win over Clemson on Thursday. Wake has Maryland this week and if they can get through the Terps the rest of the ACC shouldn't be much of a problem.

Oklahoma-Losing to Texas hurt...alot, but the Sooners are still in the Top 5 probably because that game could've gone either way but at the end Texas won anyways. In the Big XII, things can change in a heart beat and the Longhorns have a tough schedule ahead. But let us not forget that OU still has Kansas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State along with a Big XII championship game, shall they make it.

Missouri-As I said with Oklahoma, things change in the Big XII quickly. In the case of Mizzou they only lost by 5 to Oklahoma State. Outside of a date in Austin, Mizzou's schedule favors them as Colorado and Kansas come to Columbia.

Florida-The Gators are not dead. They prooved it on Saturday by demolishing LSU 51-21. However, the SEC is still a tough conference and the Gators still have to face Georgia, Florida State, and win the SEC championship before they can talk National Champion.

USC-In College Football you can lose to a 30 point underdog and still make it to a National Title game. As proven by the Trojans who have now crawled to #4 in the nation. If everyone keeps falling then USC has nothing to worry about because their only real competition left is Arizona and Stanford, both teams who have a combined 5 losses.

Georgia-The Bulldogs beat the Vols on Saturday 26-14. However, thats just a cakewalk compared to Vanderbilt, LSU, Florida, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech...all teams who Georgia still has to play.

Vanderbilt-Losing to MSU was bad...whats worse is that the only way Vandy can make it to the National Title is by beating Georgia, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, and Wake Forest in the Confederate "Harvard-Yale Game".

Kansas-The Jayhawks again pulled off a victory this time over Colorado. However, they face tougher challenges ahead with Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Texas, and Missouri.

North Carolina-The Tar Heels should be 6-0 or 4-2 or just 5-1, depending on how you see it. Some say they shouldn't have lost to Virginia Tech while others say they should not have beaten Notre Dame. Either way they're alive and well in Chapel Hill. However, they still have Virginia(whose been revived), Boston College(who everybody forgets about), Florida State, Maryland, and Duke(whose experiencing a revolution).

Michigan State-The Spartans should not have lost to Cal. If anything, they should've beaten Cal, but they didn't. So as a result, since Week 1 they have been fighting for their lives. This week they entered Ryan Field and beat Northwestern straight up 37-20. Now the Spartans can have some home cooking against Ohio State before traveling to Ann Arbor, returning home against Wisconsin, and ending the season with a tough game in Happy Valley(most likely the Big Ten title game) against Penn State.

Lets not forget about...South Florida-The Bulls were off this week but look to return strong against Syracuse.

Lets not forget about...Pittsburgh-The Panthers were off this week but return Saturday to play a VERY good Navy team who beat them 48-45 last year on Heinz Field.

You know whose still around? Florida State-Yes the Seminoles were trashed against Wake but that doesn't exactly bury the Noles who go up against North Carolina State on Thursday night. This should be easy, but Thursday is upset night.

You know who everyone forgets about? Boston College-The Eagles were off on Saturday but return for Game 3 of their series against Virginia Tech. BC took the first game in Blacksburg, but the Hokies won in Jacksonville. With the series heading to Boston, can the Eagles stay alive in the National Title hunt?

The Unknown:
Texas Tech-Another ugly win. Texas Tech's defense gave up 21 points in the final quarter against Nebraska. Thats more than Mizzou gave up in an entire game against the Huskers. Again, defense wins championships and the run and gun can be beaten.

Alabama-The Tide were off but they'll be back and they'll maybe get out of this.

Eliminated From Contention:

LSU-No repeat for the Tigers, as their run, pass, and defense were shutdown against Florida on Saturday.

Notre Dame-1988 still seems far away for the Irish.

Northwestern-You just can't lose 37-20 and bounce back in the Big Ten.

Kentucky-They still can't beat Spurrier...

The Mid-Major National Title Update:
Contenders:

BYU(6-0)-No win is pretty. BYU beat New Mexico 21-3 on Saturday. Now the Cougars face their first real road test against TCU on Thursday night.

Utah(7-0)-The Utes just flat out destroyed Wyoming in the ugly uniform state 40-7 on Saturday. Now the Utes can sit back and prepare TCU and BYU at home next month.

Boise State(5-0)-The Broncos did something not too many mid-majors could do and thats go down to Southern Miss and knock off the Golden Eagles. The Broncos did just that in their 24-7 win on Saturday. With the WAC down this year, the Broncos only real challenge remaining is their last game against Fresno State.

Ball State(7-0)-The Cardinals struggled against Western Kentucky...but so did Va.Tech. A win is a win and Ball State pulled it out on Saturday winning 24-7. This may not be the MAC of old, but winning out is still a challenge for BSU as they still have to face Central and Western Michigan.

Tulsa(6-0)-SMU prooved to be trouble for the Hurricanes as they trailed 31-24 late but rallied to win 37-31 over June Jones and his high-flying Mustang offense. Outside of possibly UCF, the Hurricanes have no real competion left until they get to the C-USA Title game. However, if there is any challenge its November 15th against Houston. If SMU gave Tulsa trouble then expect Houston to pull of the upset over their rival.

Still Alive(at the moment):
Western Michigan(6-1)-The OTHER Broncos trailed the OTHER Bulls, the Buffalo Bulls, in fact, 21-6 in the 4th Quarter but rallied to knock off Buffalo 34-28 in overtime. WMU still has Central Michigan on the road and a possible Mid-Major National Title Game against Ball State on November 25th. Lets not forget, however, about the neutral site game against Illinois at Ford Field on November 8th.

TCU(6-1)-Some wins are ugly...this is one of them. The Horned Frogs barely escaped Colorado State on Saturday winning 13-7. If TCU doesn't shape up then they'll be eliminated on Thursday when they face BYU...luckily its in Fort Worth.

The Mid 10 Rankings:
1.BYU 6-0(Mountain West)
2.Utah 7-0(Mountain West)
3.Boise State 5-0(WAC)
4.Ball State 7-0(MAC)
5.Tulsa 6-0(C-USA)
6.TCU 6-1(Mountain West)
7.Western Michigan 6-1(MAC)
8.Central Michigan 4-2(MAC)
9.Air Force 4-2(Mountain West)
10.Arkansas State 4-2(Sun Belt)

Breaking News: Tommy Bowden fired at Clemson
It has finally happened...Tommy Bowden has been fired from the Clemson Tigers football team. Following their 12-7 loss to Wake Forest on Thursday, Clemson fired Tommy Bowden. Bowden was hired in 1998 after his Tulane Green Wave went 12-0. In his first year, Bowden took the Tigers to the Peach Bowl, where they fell 17-7 to Mississippi State. At Clemson, Bowden qualified for a bowl game every year(with the exception of a forfeited appearence in 2004). The last three seasons Clemson had 9-win seasons but had lost their last two bowl games(Kentucky and Auburn). At the beginning of the year, many predicted Clemson to win the ACC and possibly National Championship with a strong defense and a powerful run game. However, Clemson fell to Alabama 34-10 on opening day. They rebounded to go 3-1 before falling to Maryland(20-17) and Wake Forest(12-7). In 2/3 of those losses, star backs James Davis and C.J. Spiller were held to under 50 yards COMBINED. Clemson plays Saturday against Georgia Tech at home in what will be the first game in the post-Bowden era. I foresee Clemson hiring Skip Holtz at the end of the year and Bowden heading to Florida State as possibly Wide Receivers or Running Back Coach. At the moment, Clemson will be coached by Dabo Swinney.

Cal vs Arizona-Both teams have potential to beat USC and the potential to give each other hell. In a key Pac 10 matchup the Wildcats seek revenge for last years thumping in Berkeley. Can AU beat Cal? Find out Saturday at 10pm on Fox Sports Net.

Western Michigan vs Central Michigan-A key MAC matchup as the Broncos take on the Chippawas. The MAC could be determined with this game as could the Mid-Major National Championship. Who will win the battle of directional Michigan? Find out Saturday at 12pm(check your local listings).
