I'm a little late and have only til 7:30 on Thursday to finish so lets get going
Game of the Week:Oklahoma State vs Texas-That...was...good...damn good. Oklahoma State went out there Saturday and took the #1 team in the country to its limits...on its own field...what does this mean? It means that despite OSU's loss they're STILL a Top 5 team. Oklahoma State fans should not be sad for they're still in. Remember Texas STILL has Texas Tech and Kansas.
Player of the Week:Graham Harrel(Texas Tech)-The Red Raider Quarterback went against a REAL defense this week in Kansas and just flat out demolished them for 386 passing yards and 6 overall touchdowns(5 passing and 1 running). Texas Tech looks a little more...scary...
Dissapointment of the Week:Auburn's defense-All season long the Auburn Tigers have been carried by one thing...their defense. Just when it finally seemed the offense was clicking...the defense dies and so does Auburn's offense. Auburn led West Virginia 17-3 at one point and gave up 31 unanswered to fall 34-17. It gets no easier for Tommy Tubberville and his Tigers.
Surprise Team of the Week:Rutgers-WHERE THE HELL DID THAT COME FROM? Rutgers only averaged what? 15 points a game? Mike Teel looked like Joe Montana in the Knight's 54-34 rout of a very good Pittsburgh team. With wins over UCONN and Pitt maybe the Scarlet Knights aren't dead.
Numbers:
1978-The last time Penn State beat Ohio State in Columbus before their 13-6 escape of the Buckeyes on Saturday
55-The amount of points scored by Oklahoma in the 1st half of their 58-35 win over Kansas State
16-The average amount of points per game that Rutgers was averaging prior to their 54-34 beatdown of Pitt
21-The average amount of points per game that Rutgers has now averaged following their 54-34 beatdown of Pitt
4-The amount of consecutive wins UVA has over teams they weren't supposed to beat
24-The amount of 4th Quarter points scored by Cal in their 41-20 win over UCLA. Take out the first three quarters and Cal still wins 24-20.
The Contenders:
Texas-Once again the Longhorns take on a Top 10 team and once again they beat them. A win over Texas Tech next week and the Longhorns might shatter a record.
Penn State-Adversity is the enemy of many and a judging tool for all. Penn State trailed Ohio State 6-3 in the 4th Quarter when Quarterback Daryl Clark got hurt. They bring in Pat Devlin someone that no one has ever heard of outside of Happy Valley and wherever he comes from and he drives the Nittany Lions down the field. Got to hand it to Penn State they fought back and conquered.
The Deadsetters:
Oklahoma-The Sooners offense is unstoppable. No team has really stopped it. Hell Oklahoma's lowest point total is 35 against TCU and Texas. Their 55 first half points proove it. Can the Sooners ride back to the National Title Game?
USC-The Trojans are really lucky in winning this game. Arizona had them on the ropes but could never capitolize...the result is the Trojans staying alive another week.
Georgia-They went into Baton Rouge and just destroyed the LSU defense which was supposed to be the strength of the team. Look out for...
Florida-The Gators completely curb stomped Kentucky en route to a 63-5 victory. Now Florida/Georgia face off in an elimination game.
Florida State-Again the Noles shake their way out of defeat. This time a good defense and injuries to Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon led the way as the Noles defeated the Hokies 27-20.
Oklahoma State-The Cowboys are just as good as Texas and possibly better than Oklahoma. There I said it, anyone who doubts them now just needs to shut up.
The Unknown:
Texas Tech-The Red Raiders offense looked amazing and their defense just demolished a very good Kansas offense that not even Oklahoma could stop. However, consistancy is a must and Texas Tech needs to knock off Texas and repeat their offense performance to get some R-E-S-P-E-C-T from me.
Alabama-The Tide went in to Knoxville and just beat Tennessee...oh its not 1998. That it don't impress me much.
Eliminated From Contention:
South Florida-Maybe next year for the Bulls. If they were playing warm weather games year round(ala SEC) they'd be alright but the cold North hurts.
Pittsburgh-I hyped them up and they fell right back down.
Boston College-Jeff Jagazinski has built a tough program at BC so they aren't going away.
Contenders:
Utah Utes(8-0)-The Utes were off this week but they take the road against a New Mexico team that beat Arizona.
Boise State Broncos(7-0)-San Jose State gave them a scare but the Broncos escape as the road to the Mountain West title gets a little easier for the Broncs.
Ball State Cardinals(8-0)-BSU took out Eastern Michigan over the weekend. They'll be off this weekend before facing Northern Illinois, Miami(OH), Central and Western Michigan.
Tulsa Golden Hurricanes(8-0)-The Canes took out UCF over the weekend and now Arkansas, Houston, Tulane, Marshall, and the C-USA Title game left, the Canes hope to convince voters that they're eligible. Fun fact, prior to last season Tulsa was scheduled to play Texas Tech this season. Imagine THAT matchup.
Still Alive(at the moment):
BYU Cougars(7-1)-The Cougs suffered another scare against UNLV but pulled it out to stay within the title hunt.
TCU Horned Frogs(8-1)-The Frogs destroyed Wyoming over the weekend. In order to win the championship they'll have to pray and knock off a good Utah team next week. But lets worry about UNLV first.
The Mid-10 Rankings:
1.Utah 8-0(Mountain West)
2.Boise State 7-0(WAC)
3.Ball State 8-0(MAC)
4.Tulsa 8-0(Conference USA)
5.TCU 8-1(Mountain West)
6.BYU 7-1(Mountain West)
7.Central Michigan 6-2(MAC)
8.Air Force 6-2(Mountain West)
9.Troy 5-2(Sun Belt)
10.Western Michigan 6-2(MAC)

Current NCAA Leaders:
Most Rushing Yards:Javon Ringer(Michigan State)-Ringer leads the NCAA with 1,373 rushing yards as he attempts to carry the Spartans to a Big Ten title.
Most Receiving Yards:Aldrick Robinson(SMU)-The Mustang Receiver leads the NCAA with 1,003 receiving yards. He may be the best prospect to come from SMU since the Pony Express.
Most Passing Yards:Graham Harrel(Texas Tech)-Granted its the Run and Shoot but Harrel is very accruate and has a good arm. With 3,147 passing yards Harrel is torching defenses weekly.
Most Overall Points:Javon Ringer(Michigan State)-Gotta hand it to the kid. Mark Dantonio has re-established the run game at Michigan State through him. The pass game has gotten a boast too from the Senior. Ringer is real...
Most Interceptions:Morgan Burnett(Georgia Tech)-The Yellow Jacket Corner has made offenses scared with his six pix on the year. Paul Johnson has re-created the tough Yellow Jacket D.
Most Accurate Quarterback:Colt McCoy(Texas)-81.8 percent completion...that is phenominal. The Real McCoy has came out and torn apart every defense he's faced.
Most Passing Touchdowns:David Johnson(Tulsa)-Forget Paul Smith...theres a new man in Tulsa, Oklahoma and thats David Johnson with 32 touchdowns.
Most Rushing Touchdowns:Javon Ringer(Michigan State)-16 touchdowns...may I need to say more?
Most Receiving Touchdowns:Jarett Dilliard(Rice) and Michael Crabtree(Texas Tech)-Both gentlemen have 14 receiving touchdowns and may double it before the season is over. With each great receiver comes a great Quarterback...both of these men have great QBs who can help them get it done.
Highest Scoring Average:Tulsa-The Golden Hurricanes have the best offense in College Football averaging close to 56 points a game. I can hear the '83 Huskers cry as their record may as the Stones say be shattered.
Highest Rushing Yard Average:Louisiana-Lafeyette-This surprised me too considering the Navys, Georgia Techs, and WVUs of college football but the Ragin Cajuns lead with an average of 311 rushing yards a game.
Highest Passing Yard Average:Texas Tech-The Red Raiders have been red hot throwing the ball under Mike Leach and this year is no exception as they lead with an average of 418 passing yard average.
The week already started as Marshall beat Houston and Buffalo beat Ohio. You can now enjoy the rest of the weekend as it kicks off with USF and Cincy tomorrow night and concludes with UCF/ECU on Sunday. Enjoy :).
